Wiconi’s “Living Waters” Family Camp and Richard Twiss Memorial Powwow are events to build relationships with new people and renew old friendships. The family camp is held at Aldersgate Conference, a camp and retreat center located southeast of Salem, Oregon, in Turner.
Our camp is designed to be a place where campers can experience from Wiconi’s staff and special guests and presenters, how to live out one’s faith as followers of Jesus in an Indigenous context. This is accomplished by creating a learning environment from within the Native American and First Nations people’s traditional expressions.
Attenders will participate in ceremonies and rituals like our talking circles, Native craft making, Sweat Lodges, and participating in our traditional, non-competitive Indigenous powwow, honoring the memory of Richard L. Twiss, late co-founder and president of Wiconi. This powwow is held on Saturday and attracts people from as far away as Seattle, Spokane, and California.
